This started as a page of sketches that I wanted to color and post ASAP, but the more I worked on it, the more it begged to be a real painting, so I just went with it. I read a comment on some other tenth doctor fanart ([link]) where the artist claimed that David Tennant had to be "the most fun person there is to draw," and seriously, I found this to be true.

I did the initial pencil sketches with no references, which is why the suit doesn't have the proper number of buttons or pockets. I referenced a load of pictures for the painting part of it, mostly to keep on track with the likeness, but I also did a lot of research on his shoes, randomly.

Tenth Doctor =

As of this drawing, I'm just into season three of the new series, though I have been YouTubing the "classic" series as well. I'm finding the fandom extremely intimidating... but I'll save writing about that for my blog whenever I get a chance.

Awww. Nine is MY Doctor. He's the one that really made me fall in love with the series. Ten is great, but Nine will always be the one I think of when anyone says "The Doctor".

I really really like nine, too. The more I watch, the more I'm realizing that maybe it was the dynamic between the Doctor and Rose that I *really* liked, more than any particular Doctor... or maybe I just really don't like Martha. ^_^; Anyhow, I'm just starting the Donna season, so that'll shed some light on it!

"Fun" is the perfect word to describe this. Really fun. That is part of what makes David such a delight in the part, I think. He certainly can do the drama... but he also is fresh and fun. Yep. Fun. The shoes are great--and really, really big because, well, they ARE. lol And you did a great job with the Doctor's crazy hair, too. Love the hair.

That's definitely what I was going for. The fun,the energy, the sense of wonder and joy and just that little bit of crazy... and aside from the pinstripes, which took a whole day by themselves, I was happy to find this was as much fun to work on as he is to watch as the doctor.

Even the hair! It was much less trouble than I was expecting.

This makes me so happy. David Tennant's face is so expressive that it's really, really difficult to properly capture the emotion, and you did it perfectly!
