Mantis - Miniature

Description

So my latest obsession is painting D&D miniatures. omg, it's so much fun... why is it so much fun? Anyway, this was my first attempt. Mantis is the butler/bodyguard for Riedran Ambassador Midian in my fiancee's Eberron game. He wanted the same color palette as a particular character from Shadow Hearts 3. He's quite a purple monk. ^_^;

It's a little bit sloppy and I hadn't mixed the colors quite right and I'm not sure I like his face so much, but not bad for a first try. I can't afford the fancy paints that are specially made for this kind of thing, so I primed it with an all-purpose indoor-outdoor spray primer and painted it with cheap acrylics, the kind you get at the craft store for 89 cents a bottle. I bought 3 of the smallest brushes I could find, and did my best. I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

I was also pleasantly surprised that my camera took such detailed photos of the minis! However, it got the lint and dust on the table with amazing clarity, too. Pardon my dusty table. ^_^;

As stated in the image, mini is by Reaper. Minis in the background are Werewolf Lord and Fire Giant from Heroscape. I did not paint them.

Basic spray primer is the best. I buy mine from the hardware store. No sense in buying GW spray primer for twice the cost and half the volume. :)
