This is my entry for
 's contest ([link]). It's her OC, Selenity, aka Sailor Blue Moon. Check out her page for more details. Oh yeah, and download for a GINORMOUS look at this pic. OMFG, THIS WAS SO FRIGGIN HARD TO DO. So, it started off as a doodle on a scrap piece of paper. I drew little sketches of all of =elila's Sailor OCs that were part of the contest, and about 3 of them turned out really well... but this one just begged to be finished. So, here's how I did it:  I scanned the sketch into photoshop at about 3x size. I "inked" it almost entirely using paths, something I've *never* done before. It took sooooo long, but the lines so crisp... I still have a lot to learn, but I like how it turned out. I decided, hey, I want *colored* outlines. I'm an idiot.  I've never done this before, either, so it took forever and I did it TOTALLY wrong, so I'm not even going to give details on that, I don't want to screw anyone up. I eventually found this tutorial ([link]) which explains the RIGHT way to do it, but I had already finished by then.  Base colors for the figure were easy, but that was about the only thing that was. Shadows were on a separate layer set to multiply. I did most of the shadow outlines with paths. My botched outline coloring really bit me in the butt here, because sometimes the line color would bleed into the shadows and create a REALLY weird third color, so I ended up re-coloring the line work a few times. The background is a heavily modified cel background; it was originally a black sky with a white moon, so I put it on top of a gradient and set the layer on Overlay, and then used a brush from *redheadstock's Light Beams brush pack for a starry effect. Text. It emulates the text =DracheaRannak uses in his many Sailor Moon pieces (he is amazing, go look at his stuff now!), but those actually emulate the Sailormoon S and Sailorstars LD coversAnd that's that. lol, I say it like it *didn't* take me 12 to 20 hours to do. ;_; Anyway, wish me luck on the contest!  This is really gorgeous! A lot of work, but worth it- especially if it means you'll be able to do the same thing more easily next time.

Critiques
Her right arm seems a little thick to me, even if it's foreshortened, which I don't think it is based on the length and width comparison to the other arm.
I know that manga styles tend to involve a lot of oversimplification(I should know, right?), but your level of detail is stunning in parts of the pic, so the lack of lines between a couple of the fingers on both hands is more noticeable than it might've been otherwise. Even with lines, I'm not sure what the lower hand is doing, I tried making my fingers do that and maybe I'm just not flexible enough!
Now that messy business is over, I find this picture to be very helpful to someone of my middling abilities! Your ability to draw an outfit that merely grazes the realm of real life clothing in a way that I can believe is impressive, and I find your use of highlights and shadows to be the perfect hybrid of elaborate and simple.
Let me just iterate once more, I think this picture is adorable and if you had drawn anyone else, I may have still entered the contest, haha!
