Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Sleep? What's that?

I thought I'd get a chance to rest and recover from the semester over the winter break, but I guess I was wrong. I haven't been sleeping; I get 4 hours a night if I'm lucky. Last night: nothing.

I've also not been doing too great physically, which I'm sure is in part because of the lack of sleep. I ache all over, all the time, and to top it all off I'm having issues with food again. Due to all that, I haven't been doing a whole lot of art for the past week; mostly just silly things that end up on my Tumblr. School starts next week, so I hope having a routine again will help, otherwise I'm in trouble. :\

What I *have* been doing is trying to catch up the with comments and images in my message center. Today I managed to pare it down from over 6000 to right about 4000. Good progress! Forgive me if I don't get to some of your comments; I'm getting to the point where I'll be cutting my losses and trying to start fresh. If you need to know anything important, feel free to note me, or send me an ask on Tumblr. Nobody ever contacts me on Tumblr, so I'll notice. XD

Speaking of Tumblr, I wrote up an interesting little rant yesterday, after seeing "Fake Geek Girl Hate" complaints about 20 billion times on facebook. Give it a read if you have a minute, it might not be what you think: Of Guys and Geek Girls.

Oh yeah, and apparently I won about a bajillion DA Points for winning OSI, so I should totally run a contest or something. XD

And that's why I like Transformers. If you watch the old comic, half the characters are colored wrong XD There are even a few spots where some genius mixed up the Autobot and Decepticon symbols XD

I dressed up as Soundwave for Halloween and blew minds. Kids liked it, teens liked it, adults loved it, and old people just love everything. I felt the joy of Transformers that night as I, I made people laugh! It was happy folk and double handfuls of candy all about!

I'm sorry you got hassled at the conventions. Those girls have to be jealous, I can't think of any other reason. Do you know how happy I would be to find another person honoring my fandom? I'd be photos and tears of joy everywhere I'm tellin' yah!

Now if only my little sister will agree to be seen in public with me...

Was earring debacle something that took place at a convention? Or online when you posted a photo of the cosplay?

At an actual convention, Anime Express in Daytona Beach. I was cosplaying Belldandy and I think I had some generic clip-on hoops. That was probably 7 or 8 years ago. The scene got catty in Florida very early compared to some other states, you'd constantly hear things like "OMG, I can't believe she's wearing that" during the Masquerade. Which is really just a ridiculous thing to say at an anime con, since everyone is dressed as an anime character, so no, I can't believe any of us are wearing what we're wearing. XD

I'd like to think I'd have thicker skin about the whole thing these days, but I've been too intimidated to even try getting back into the scene, especially now that I'm much heavier than I was back then.
